Dolly Parton

Letter to Heaven: Songs of Faith & Inspiration (Legacy)

Believe. Believe in Dolly Parton. Our favorite teacup size, Tennessee-born singer-songwriter and seven-time Grammy Award winner has famously crossed over musical genres, enjoying hits in the country, bluegrass, and pop worlds, but no form captures the true heart and soul of Dolly Parton better than gospel. The recordings from her first full-length gospel album, 1971’s Golden Streets of Glory (RCA), plus seven additional tracks, including the previously unreleased "Would You Know Him (If You Saw Him)," have been reissued in the beautifully packaged Letter to Heaven: Songs of Faith & Inspiration and all should give praise to the powerhouse that is Parton.

Even if you're not into songs of faith, Dolly will have no trouble singing right through to your troubled heart. Letter contains celebrated gospel favorites like "Wings of a Dove" and "How Great Thou Art," as well as Parton’s stunning take on the century-old hymn "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" in her original track "Comin' for to Carry Me Home.” Parton co-wrote "Old Time Preacher Man" with her Aunt Dorothy as a tribute to her grandfather, and this track—as well as the whole darn album—perfectly illustrates her unshakable devotion to family and faith. Parton’s characteristic vocals stand out over the pleasing melodies and musical arrangements, really and truly carrying you to greener pastures.

Heaven knows it would be a sin for you not to get this album, and come on—it doesn't get any better than Dolly Parton coming forth to carry you home.
