Some By Sea  Issue #27 Issue #27

on fire! (igloo) (SideCho)

One gray afternoon, I put on fire! (igloo) in my computer and pressed play. I opened Photoshop, played with my latest batch of photos, and before I knew it, the record was over. I didn’t spend any time analyzing whether it was good: I inherently knew it was.

on fire! (igloo) slipped into my life like a purring stray cat and made itself at home. Some By Sea’s soothing indie pop carried me through my task as beautifully as my oldest and dearest records, as if it had been in my life all along. I immediately hit repeat. This time, a few more things stood out, like the mournful cello, delicate harmonies, and the odd lyric here and there (“Let’s write all the words with the blood from our veins,” “We’ve come too far to just give up / There’s only one bullet left to finish the job”).

I hit repeat for a third time, grabbed my journal, and let the record do its magic. And that’s when I knew that on fire! (igloo) had just joined ranks with my other favorite creative-time records. It blends in nicely with the scrape of pen on paper, the tick of fingers on a keyboard, and the click of a mouse. As the warm energy of the record enveloped me, my muse appeared, and I entered a state of bliss. If you’re in need of a creative salve, this record is the perfect remedy.
