Pulp's former front-man cuts out on his own

The crowd consisted of boys in suit jackets with thick rimmed glasses, men and women in Morrissey T-shirts, and a whole load of people that looked like they were still living in the '90s. Jarvis Cocker is best known from his days as front-man of the Brit-pop band Pulp, and the infamous night at the 1997 Brit Awards when he invaded the stage during Michael Jackson's performance. In November 2006, Cocker released his self-titled, first solo album and this was the last night of his UK tour.

He arrived on stage several minutes after his band, looking smart in a suit jacket, drainpipe trousers, and signature thick black rimmed glasses. He took a bite out of an apple before throwing it in to the crowd. The show started with the politically embellished "Fat Children" and the first single, "Don't Let Him Waste Your Time."

Cocker's banter was equally as enjoyable as the music and he kept a dialogue running throughout the show. For the most part the crowd were still and intent, as though watching a poetry recital, while Jarvis energetically danced and posed his way through the set. In some ways it was like watching an uncle sing karaoke — an uncle who's not afraid to shake his ass and use the C-word. However, he did keep the stage alight and provided a great night for the young, as well as the oldies, in the crowd.
