Sierra Kusterbeck Tour Diary, Part 2

The frontwoman of rockers VersaEmerge reports from the road on their first-ever headlining tour

Sierra Kusterbeck is the lead singer for Florida-based pop rock trio VersaEmerge whose debut LP, Fixed at Zero (Fueled By Ramen), was released this summer while the band was on Warped Tour. Leave any preconceptions you may have about Fueled By Ramen and Warped Tour artists at the door—VersaEmerge creates catchy, slick power pop and have a powerful vocalist in Kusterbeck. Check ‘em out, and then catch the band on the road during their first-ever headlining tour now.

Hi all!

Sierra here checking back in from the Vultures Unite Tour. The last few days we've spent most of our time in the van driving up and down California. Though we've had little sleep, the energy is still higher than ever and the shows have been unreal! Being out on our first headliner and hearing kids sing every word is very surreal to us. We just hit L.A., San Francisco, Anaheim, and Sacramento. Each show was a little different but they were all unforgettable. L.A. is always a good time—the kids are so enthusiastic and our Vultures brought us tons of goodies. As we were setting up on stage we realized our big prop metal trees were gone. Someone saw them sitting outside and picked them up, but we didn't get down about it. Instead we jumped on stage and had a great time!

The San Francisco show was at a very cool venue, Cafe Du Nord. There was a sea of kids pushing forward that ended up halfway on the stage making the show so much more personal and intimate, which I loved! And Anaheim was our first sold out show! Kids were actually getting turned down at the door, so I got backstage wrist bands and gave them to some of the people who were stuck outside and drove a long way to come. Such a fun show (and sorry to the people whose heads I unexpectedly jumped on).

In Sacramento we played at the Boardwalk, and any band that has ever played there will tell you the sound guy Claude is a fucking lunatic/genius. He's loud, proud, opinionated, and takes control in a fashion that many people have never seen before. He's also a huge teddy bear with a sweet heart and will make your show sound amazing. Love that man! During the show, when we where playing “Past Praying For,” Devin's cable and my cable got crossed and it tightened up around me, and BOOM!  I went down hard right onto the center wedge. I'm sure you can find the footage on YouTube somewhere.

Halloween was yesterday and we stopped in the middle of nowhere Oregon and watched sports. Since I'm still twelve-years-old at heart, I dressed up in full costume and ate candy that some girls gave us the night before. I was just a Na'vi (from Avatar) with nowhere to go. Check out my costume in the picture above!
