Not everyone can throw on a white t-shirt and a pair of jeans and still look like the most stylish person on earth. Micky Green is just one of those people who looks like she doesn’t even have to try. Maybe it’s the 24-year-old musician’s bright lipstick juxtaposed with that magical platinum hair, or maybe it’s the fact that she totally exudes an undeniably cool rocknroll vibe. Whatever it is, it’s no wonder this Aussie left home at 18 to become a model. But Green is so much more than just another pretty face. Her soulful, colorful pop debut, White T-Shirt, has already won the hearts of countless Parisians, and is quickly overtaking the rest of the globe. Oh, and did we mention that she writes all of her own music, too? We ask Green about the coolest clothes she’s bought on the road, her next album, and the secret to making her hair look like snow.
VZ: How has being a model influenced your style?
“It gave me an appreciation of tailored suits and beautifully
made dresses.”
VZ: Many pop musicians don’t write their own music, why is it important to you to do so?
“I think it’s important to be behind everything I do. It feels right to be singing the songs I made ... even if sometimes it’s a bit personal. Music, like fashion, is a creative endeavor.”
VZ: What are the most unique accessories or pieces of clothing you’ve bought while on the road?
“I found some sick military hats, sailor hats, and straw hats ... always hats ‘cause my hair’s a mess!”
VZ: Do people tell you “Hey Mickey, you’re so fine. You’re so fine, you blow my mind” often?
“Ha, ha, ha, sometimes. It was my favorite song when I was 15!”
VZ: If you were forced to only have three items of clothing to wear the rest of your life, what would they be?
“A white t-shirt, my favorite jeans, and a sexy black dress.”
VZ: Any secret to pulling off your seemingly effortless style?
“Be yourself; be comfortable; don’t follow trends; and
have fun!”
VZ: Who is your Style Idol?
“Carine Roitfeld (Editor-in-Chief of French Vogue) and Jane Birkin in the ‘70s.”
VZ: You’re working on a new album now, how will this one differ from White T-Shirt?
“It’s more complex, more upbeat ... and there’s some horns.”
VZ: How do you get your hair to look like snow?
“Dry Shampoo.”
