Fashionista of the Week: 10/29

An RMIT student shows off her East Coast style Down Under

Schoolboy blazers, high-waisted trousers, and square rimmed glasses might make you feel like you’re channeling the past, but looking like a nerd is smarter than you think. From Zara’s ready-to-wear fall collection to haute couture styles straight off the catwalk, it seems everyone wants a piece of theprep.

This Aussie Fashionista’s polished, chic style perfectly embodies the structure and elegance of the American Ivy League look—even though she hails from Melbourne.

Her flapper hat and high-waisted pants, so in right now, both flatter curves and reveal her feminine shape. And the choice of plain black tee is perfect for the patent flats and portfolio clutch. But the velveteen jacket is the icing on the cake. In such a warm shade of chestnut, this luxe piece could easily overwhelm her look, but by adding simple signature pieces like that black tee and silver ring, she manages to balance out the blazer’s richness.

Hint: Sheer socks add texture and interest. With a nod to 2010 runways, our Fashionista personalizes the sock-and-heel trend, and breaks up her look at the same time. Try this pair (pictured above), $14.99, from Modcloth, with low boots or round-toe flats.
