The popularity of the pin-up has seen a resurgence in recent years. While Gayla Partridge, the photographer behind Austin, TX-based 666photography, is clearly a fan of classic pin-up art, her work pushes the boundaries of the genre in both luxurious and macabre directions. Her Dia de les Muertos (Day of the Dead) photographs have graced magazine covers, and her photo shoots are usually booked for months in advance.

One of the hallmarks of a 666Photography shoot is an elaborate set, complete with hand-painted backdrops and props that Gayla and her team make themselves.

Even woodland creatures and a baby carriage become ominous elements in one of Gayla's decadently creepy portraits.

You can see many more beautiful and strange photos in Gayla's newest book: Of Virgin Queens and High Camp Divas, available from Amazon or Korero.
