My mom has collected art glass for as long as I can remember, but out of all the beautiful things she's picked up over the years, her favorite piece is a tiny votive holder that cost about $15. She was one of the first in line for the long-passed Dale Chihuly exhibit at Chicago's Garfield Observatory, and she dragged me along with her. We picked up the piece in the gift shop, a mass-produced version of his genius glass art.
Over the years I've had the pleasure of seeing his work in museums around the country, and his undulating sculpture is always astonishing. My favorite piece is in the lobby of the Milwaukee Art Museum. The glass tower sits in the lobby, where anyone can view it for free.
