Christine Bejasa loves What Claudia Wore

About 20 years ago, I started reading Ann M. Martin's young adult book series, the Baby-Sitters Club. Published from 1986 to 2000, the series followed the antics of a group of suburban 'tween girls in fictional Stoneybrook, Connecticut through their adventures in babysitting. I was always partial to the character of Claudia Kishi, the Japanese-American artsy type of the group. I probably shouldn't admit that I liked her because she was a terrible speller and did poorly in school (in every class besides art, obvs!), but I appreciate that her character didn't follow the Asian bookworm stereotype.

Luckily, I found a blog that shares my love and nostalgia for the Baby-Sitters — What Claudia Wore reflects on the styles and storylines of the BSC girls, and most notably, fashion-forward Claudia. Kim brings us unique and hilarious fashion bloggery, where she somehow successfully makes relevant fashion muses out of 12-year-old fictional characters Kristy, Mary Anne, Stacey, Dawn, Mallory, Jessi, Logan, Shannon, and Abby, and proves that their all-American '80s senses of style still echo in today's trends.

I also grew up on this series but was disappointed to learn that the books were not written by Ann M. Martin, but were ghost written by Scholastic staff. I know this isn't uncommon among youth-oriented series (I think "Goosebumps" also falls into this category), but it was still sad to know since I felt like I was in the Club with all of them!!
