Julia Korol loves the Hood Internet

Mash-ups died the day sound-editing programs became readily available to every wannabe DJ on the planet. Absurdly hilarious, but hardly ever seriously good, they never carved out much of a niche in the music world. Then came the Hood Internet to shake things up a bit. Chicago-based DJs ABX and STV SLV (Aaron Brink and Steve Reidell) bring hip-hop and indie rock songs together in a way that makes you question how one ever existed without the other, and more importantly, how you ever could have thought R. Kelly’s “I’m a Flirt” was any good before being backed by Broken Social Scene’s “7/4 Shoreline.”
My favorite part is the accompanying Photoshopped pictures showing the two artists ‘hanging out’. Nothing warms my heart more than seeing Beyonce spending some quality time with the flannel-clad boys of Fleet Foxes.
Download all of the mash-ups in mixtape form at their Web site.
